Children, Youth and Families 2010 (CYF 2010) Children, Youth and Families 2010 (CYF 2010) is the primary advocacy program for families, youth and children in both the city and county of Galveston. Through community collaboration via coalitions and partnerships, issues and concerns of children, youth and families are identified, and interventions are designed and implemented to address early childhood education, child abuse and neglect, planned and emergency child care, children's health, child safety, parenting, teen pregnancy, substance abuse, violence, juvenile detention prevention, and social-environmental policy and legislation. Ongoing input from participants, including youth, parents, families, neighborhoods, child care programs, schools, homeless shelters, crisis centers, health organizations, juvenile justice, law enforcement, businesses, government, and other social service organizations, combined with data from the annual Galveston Children's Report Card, provides a wealth of information for the Strategic Planning Process which is consumer driven and the product of interagency collaboration. Examples of these collaborative efforts include the creation of the Advocacy Center for Children, a program for children who are victims of sexual abuse, and the Teen Health Clinics at Ball High and Central Middle School. Other examples include quarterly community workshops on topics such as lead poisoning, immunizations, child support, parenting, violence prevention, and nutrition and exercise. Among CYF 2010's current programs, projects, sponsored coalitions, and activities are:
Funded by the Justice Department, Criminal Justice Division, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention; The Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services; The Texas Health Services Commission. |
