Children, Youth and Families 2010 provides a weekend program for youth, 10 to 17 years of age, who are at risk for committing crimes or who are on probation. The program, called the Comprehensive Project for Youth At Risk and On Probation (CPYRP), also provides home visits to the families of the youth during the week. The goals of the CPYRP are to reduce the number of youth initially entering probation and to reduce the recidivism rate of youth by facilitating the development of life skills and personal management strategies. The program includes life skills, psycoeducational (substance abuse prevention), and ROPES training, and educational incentive activities, in addition to family involvement. The Galveston County Juvenile Justice Department serves as the primary referral source for this project. The program is supported through a federal criminal Justice Division (CJD) Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Grant. To refer a youth to the program, contact Kenneth Henry, Head Mentor, at |
