Foster parents must:
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Have income to financially support themselves and family members
• Be in good physical and mental health
• Be willing to support foster children’s contact with
their biological parents, and to cooperate with the agency’s
efforts to reunite them with their families or prepare them for adoption
or independent living
• Meet all application, assessment and training requirements
2. how does the agency decide
which children to place in your home?
answer:
Children are placed in a foster home by matching their needs with
the foster parent’s abilities. The foster parent selects the
Level of Care (LOC) and age group of the children they would like
to foster.
3. what types of children are
in foster care?
answer:
Children of all ages, origins, ethnicity and backgrounds come into
foster care. Special needs vary but what these children have in common
is their need for a loving family and a place to call home. The Jameson
Center is in particular need of parents who:
• Can stay at home to care for infants and preschool children
• Are interested in helping teenagers work toward independence
• Can care for children with medical needs or mental retardation
• Are Bilingual (English/Spanish) and interested in opening
their homes to teenagers from Central America, South America and Mexico

Everyday caring people just like you are fostering children. Foster
parents are people who want to provide a nurturing, safe and loving
environment for children.
5. what is the process of becoming
a foster parent?
answer:
While length of time varies from case to case, the process for becoming
a foster parent will generally include, but is not limited to:
• Prospective Foster Parent Interest Form
• Information Meeting
• Foster Parent Application and Required Documents
• Family Preparation and Evaluation
• Training Program and Additional Pre-Placement Trainings
• Home Monitoring and Home Study (Assess the home for placement
compatibility, children’s safety and available space. All homes
must meet standards enumerated in the Minimum Standards and Guidelines
for Child-Placing Agencies.)
