Child and Youth Abduction and
The program began in Louisville, Kentucky as an outreach effort of the YMCA Center for Youth Alternatives. Successes prompted the implementation of the youth shelter outreach program in communities across the United States. The Children's Center Inc. operates Project Safe Place as an outreach effort of its Albertine Yeager Youth Crisis Center. The program is developing Safe Place Sites throughout Galveston County and in the greater Clear Lake area of Northern Galveston County, Texas and Southeast Harris County, Texas. Communities all share a concern about the safety and welfare of their youth and search for ways to keep their young people safe. Project Safe Place is a program designed to provide access to immediate help and safety to young people at risk of abuse, neglect or serious family problems. It is a cost effective program offering youth and their families access to counseling and effective resolution to their conflict before the situation escalates beyond their control. It also provides resources to children or youth who are in emergencies requiring immediate support to prevent problems with their safety. Businesses, community buildings and buses are designated as Safe Place sites and prominently display a distinctive yellow and black Safe Place logo. Any youth can walk into a Safe Place and let an employee know that they need help. They are quickly connected with the Albertine Yeager Youth Crisis Center that will provide immediate emergency assistance. Funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Runaway and Homeless Youth Program and private contributions.
