The purpose for which the corporation is organized are as follows:

  • To establish, maintain and operate a permanent institution of purely non-sectarian, public charity to provide for the housing, care, control instruction, education, maintenance, counseling and other assistance to needy and/or dependent children, and for related charitable and educational purposes, without regard to race, color, creed, sex or national origin and without regard to the poverty or riches of the recipient; and


  • To receive and maintain a fund or funds of real or personal property, or both, and to use such funds, including income and principal therefrom, exclusively for the charitable and educational purposes of the corporation, either directly or by contributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code, as such section now exists or as it may hereafter be amended or succeeded; and


  • In the event that some children lack sufficient family support, and may when they reach chronological adulthood be so handicapped that they cannot be expected to look after themselves, but in the further event that no other suitable facilities can be found for their care, including housing, The Children’s Center, Inc. may continue to supply these needs for as long as may be necessary; and


  • To develop a comprehensive system of children's services which will encourage the diverting of children from long-term placements outside of a family unit, and thereby strengthen the role of the family as the primary caretaker, while providing supportive services to improve the welfare of the children within a family setting; and


  • To perform an advocacy role for children, providing leadership support toward the funding and development of quality services to children on the national, state and local levels, and in particular, to work closely with private and public agencies who share concern for the welfare of these children, and meeting their needs.

Board and Management Structure

The Children's Center, Inc. has a voluntary Board of Directors composed of a diverse cross section of the community. The Board meets monthly and utilizes a committee structure to oversee community and consumer advocacy, finance, fundraising, nominations, policies, program planning and development and real estate.

The Children's Center, Inc. employs senior staff to manage the interests of the corporation. A president, a Vice president of Finance and Business Administration and a Director of Program Standards, Evaluation and Training provide direction, support and monitoring of programs. All programs and services are directly managed by Executive Directors. These programs and services include: Children, Youth and Families 2010; the Galveston Island Child Development Center; the Galveston Island Children's Respite Care Program; the Galveston Island Family Crisis Center; the Galveston Island Transitional Living Program; the Albertine Yeager Youth Crisis Center and the Jameson Center.
