Prominent businessman Don Stephen Aron of The Aron Companies based in Houston, has just gifted use of 2 acres of undeveloped property along Clear Creek Bayou in Friendswood to The Children’s Center, Inc. The intent of donating access to “Aron’s Landing” is to provide a space for the children and youth at The Children’s Center, Inc. to explore nature and enjoy the outdoors.
“My family has made several of these donations,” said Aron. “We gave a 12-acre park to City of Houston”.
The park, donated in June 2005, is named “Aron Ledet Park” and is located in northwest Houston on 6323 Antoine Drive. Aron has been active in the community having served as President of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, an officer of the Galveston – Houston Historic Foundation, Vice President of Congregation Beth Israel, served on the executive committee & Treasurer of the Houston Parks Board and currently still on the Houston’s Parks Board and serving as Treasurer of the Houston Parks Board Foundation.
The recipient, The Children’s Center, Inc. is a local nonprofit based in the Houston Metro Area that now serves 24 counties along the Gulf Coast of Texas. Their services include providing emergency services to runaway and homeless youth, shelter for homeless older youth and a family shelter in Galveston that serves families with children.
“We deeply appreciate this gift from Mr. Aron, said James T. Keel, CEO/President of the Children’s Center, Inc., “Most of those we serve are in our care because of traumatic life events”. Access to a peaceful, natural space will assist in their healing”.
